Recently at one of our Marches Book Arts Group meeting I was introduced to cyanotype, a photo printing process that produces a cyan blue print. I very quickly decided (as I hadn't prepared anything!) to use easily available plants and I exposed the light sensitive paper between pieces of perspex using the plants as the printed objects. I firstly used the beautiful Mountain Knapweed plant as I am always fascinated by the shapes that its structure makes. We were fortunate that it was a very sunny day and the prints took very well:
My second try was with this Ivy leaf which came out equally beautiful:
Back in the studio I have started drawing and painting in my sketchbooks to use the plant forms as inspiration for new prints:
These look very inspiring Jacqui, I like the shapes and shadows the leaves make. I look forward to seeing the prints.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting - something that is on my list to explore in the future - look forward to seeing the prints that you develop from them

ReplyDeleteThank you - I think it is a combination of the colours and the structure of the plants that I was working with.
